Is it an herb or a flower? Yes! Anise hyssop is a tall (2′ -4′ high), striking plant with blue flower spikes that attracts beneficial pollinators. A member of the mint family, it’s native to North America. According to the Penn State Extension, “The aromatic leaves can be used to make jellies and can be crumbled in salads. The seeds can be added to cookies or muffins. The aromatic dried leaves are a good addition to potpourris. Flower spikes can be an attractive addition to fresh cut or dried arrangements.” Herbalists use it for medicinal purposes. It’s in nearly every category!

It will spread by rhizome and easily self-seeds. Prefers well-drained soil in partial to full sun; blooms June to September.

Plant is 8-10″ tall, in 5.5-inch pot.
