Dennis Barnebey is a 2017 SustainPHL Nominee

We’re proud that Dennis Barnebey, Hansberry Garden and Nature Center’s (HGNC) Vice-President, and lead coordinator for the Kelly Green Project, is a SustainPHL nominee! Dennis was nominated in the category of “Neighborhood Champion,” whose nominees, “… [are] making a difference on a micro level (neighborhood engagement, block captain, etc.) and his/her/their efforts could be unrecognized.”

Dennis is being highlighted for the great work he’s done leading the Kelly Green Project, which works to revitalize the local John B. Kelly Elementary School. In August, Philadelphia’s SustainPHL Awards will highlight and celebrate Dennis and other community change makers.

Some of Dennis’ (and Kelly Green’s) achievements:

  • Creation of Pocket Meadow in front of John B. Kelly
  • Establishing a community garden in the school
  • Placing college students, majoring in teaching, inside the school as volunteers
  • Partnering with the Audubon Society to offer eco-educational programming to students
  • And much more!
